The i Paper is looking for a talented Infographics Designer with a strong visual identity to support our current team as we accelerate our digital subscription model. We are looking for someone who is passionate about digital storytelling and converting complex data and narratives into visually appealing, interactive, and user-friendly graphic elements. The successful candidate will join our production team, working across multiple products and platforms to elevate and enhance our journalism. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an ambitious team at a key moment in The I Paper’s growth.

Main Responsibilities

  • Create high-impact visual content – including infographics, digital illustrations, and artwork – to support and enhance coverage across news, sport, and features.
  • Design and produce visual assets optimised for digital platforms (especially mobile), aimed at increasing audience engagement and storytelling depth.
  • Work with data and editorial content to translate complex information into clear, visually engaging narratives.
  • Contribute original ideas to the development of visual journalism and support creative thinking across the editorial team.
  • Collaborate closely with reporters and editors to ensure visuals align with editorial intent and brand voice.
  • Apply image compositing and manipulation skills to create polished visuals, using photography, illustration, and graphics as needed.
  • Maintain consistency across print and digital products, following brand guidelines while bringing a fresh creative approach to every project.
  • Manage visual projects from concept to delivery, balancing multiple deadlines and ensuring high-quality output under pressure.
  • Stay current with digital design trends and tools, continuously improving techniques and exploring new formats and approaches.

Person Specification

  • A strong eye for design, layout, and visual storytelling, with a passion for creating engaging digital graphics and visuals.
  • Experience in image editing, compositing and digital artwork, using tools like Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign); familiarity with After Effects, Premiere Pro, Figma.
  • Datawrapper or Flourish and ability to code is a bonus.
  • Ability to create clear, simple infographics and visual elements that support editorial content.
  • An interest in news, current affairs, and digital storytelling, with a desire to help audiences understand stories visually.
  • Comfortable working with others – especially writers, editors, and other designers – to bring ideas to life.
  • Good attention to detail and a willingness to take feedback and refine work.
  • Able to manage time effectively, work to deadlines, and juggle multiple tasks when needed.
  • Eager to learn and grow within a fast-paced editorial environment.
  • A portfolio that shows creative thinking, design potential, and an understanding of visual storytelling.
  • Used to working on Slack/Teams and managing their own workflow.
