This role requires a blend of technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of food production processes.
As a Reliability & Continuous Improvement Engineer you will:
- Process Analysis and Optimization: Conduct thorough analysis of current manufacturing processes to identify areas for improvement. Implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and increase efficiency. Develop and maintain process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Project Management: Lead and manage CI projects from inception to completion. Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, and maintenance. Track project progress and ensure timely delivery of objectives.
- Data Collection and Analysis: Gather and analyze data related to production performance, downtime, waste, and other key metrics. Use statistical tools to interpret data and drive decision-making. Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations.
- Training and Development: Train staff on CI methodologies such as Six Sigma, Kaizen, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM). Develop training materials and conduct workshops to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
- Quality and Compliance: Ensure all process improvements comply with food safety regulations and quality standards. Work closely with the quality assurance team to maintain high standards of product quality.
- Safety and Sustainability: Promote safety improvements and ensure all changes adhere to safety regulations. Implement sustainable practices to reduce the environmental impact of manufacturing processes.
What skills and experience do I need for this role?
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Food Science, or a related field is preferred. Certifications in CI methodologies (e.g., Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt) are highly desirable.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CI tools and methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, 5S, and Value Stream Mapping. Familiarity with statistical analysis software (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and ERP systems. Understanding of food safety standards (e.g., HACCP, ISO 22000) and regulatory requirements.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical skills to identify issues and opportunities for improvement. Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems.
- Project Management Skills: Experience managing projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring. Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience: Previous experience in a role within the food industry or a similar manufacturing environment. Demonstrated success in driving process improvements and achieving measurable results.
