The Hygiene Operative plays a critical role in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and hygiene across our facilities, ensuring compliance with all relevant food safety standards and regulatory requirements. This role is responsible for cleaning site shared spaces and production corridors. The position requires a strong understanding of hygiene protocols within a food manufacturing environment and the ability to work proactively to ensure all hygiene tasks are completed efficiently, safely, and to the highest standards.

As a Hygiene Operative you will:

  • Carry out routine and deep cleaning of offices, toilets and canteen/welfare areas in accordance with cleaning schedules and standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with storage of hygiene and cleaning materials, ensuring accurate receipt and correct storage.
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate stock levels of cleaning equipment, materials, and chemicals ensuring availability and timely replenishment.
  • Use and care for any cleaning equipment issued in an appropriate and safe manner.
  • Report any maintenance or repair issues.
  • Clean internal and external ground floor windows as required to maintain hygiene and presentation standards.
  • Adhere strictly to all food safety guidelines, hygiene protocols, and company food safety policies and procedures.
  • Complete accurate records of cleaning activities as required for auditing and traceability purposes.
  • Participate in internal and external audits when necessary, supporting the site’s hygiene compliance.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments to coordinate cleaning requirements and address hygiene issues.
  • Support with additional tasks or duties as allocated in response to business needs or seasonal requirements.

What skills and experience do I need for this role?

  • Prior experience in a hygiene or cleaning role, ideally within a food manufacturing or warehouse environment.
  • Strong understanding of hygiene and food safety practices (training will be provided if necessary).
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and cleaning schedules.
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to carry out manual handling tasks.
  • COSHH awareness or formal training in handling chemicals.
  • Previous experience using industrial cleaning equipment and machinery.
