About the role:
We are seeking an ambitious and commercially focused National Account Manager to drive growth across the Retail and Grocery channel. This role will be responsible for managing key national retail accounts, developing strategic customer partnerships, and delivering sustainable sales and profit growth across major grocery retailers. The successful candidate will have strong FMCG experience, exceptional relationship management skills, and a proven ability to execute commercial plans within a fast-paced retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and develop relationships with key Grocery and Retail customers across the UK market.
- Deliver sales, margin, and distribution targets in line with annual business objectives.
- Create and execute Joint Business Plans (JBPs) to support long-term customer growth.
- Lead commercial negotiations including pricing, promotional activity, range reviews, and new product listings.
- Identify opportunities to grow category performance, increase market share, and improve customer profitability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, category, supply chain, finance, and demand planning teams.
- Analyse customer performance, market trends, and competitor activity to inform commercial strategy.
- Manage forecasting, promotional planning, and account performance reporting.
- Build strong relationships with buyers, category managers, and senior retail stakeholders.
- Support the successful launch and distribution of new products across retail channels.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in National Account Management within FMCG or Consumer Goods.
- Experience managing major Grocery or Retail accounts.
- Strong commercial acumen with a track record of delivering growth targets.
- Excellent negotiation and influencing skills.
- Strong analytical and forecasting capability.
- Ability to build trusted customer relationships at multiple levels.
- Highly organised with excellent project and time management skills.
- Comfortable working within a fast-paced and commercially driven environment.
Preferred Experience
- Experience managing accounts such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Asda, Waitrose, Co-op, or Ocado.
- Understanding of category management principles and retailer processes.
- Experience within health & wellness, snacking, beverages, or high-growth FMCG brands.
- Familiarity with syndicated data platforms such as Nielsen or Circana.
