These people are integral to the smooth running of the business; ensuring everyone is paid on time, that materials are sourced and arrive promptly, that we meet our legal obligations and that our health, safety, and security is safeguarded.

Why be a Data Engineer at THG? THG is building the engineering capability that will sit beneath every analytics, data science and AI initiative across the business. As a Data Engineer within our Engineering & Governance pillar, you will work within one of three domain-aligned engineering teams — Customer, Commercial or Operations — helping to build and evolve the structured domain datasets that the business depends on. This is an early-career role with real responsibility. You will be working alongside a Senior Data Engineer and Engineering Lead on some of THG's most important data challenges: consolidating fragmented data sources, building reliable pipelines, and moving the business towards a consistent, trustworthy foundation for how we manage our data. We are not looking for someone who has done this all before — we are looking for someone technically capable, curious, and genuinely motivated by the craft of data engineering. If you want to build things that matter and develop quickly in a fast-moving environment, this is the right role.

What you'll do:

  • Build and maintain data pipelines within your domain — extracting, transforming and loading data from source systems into structured domain datasets in BigQuery.
  • Work to the architectural patterns and standards set by the Engineering Lead — applying consistent approaches to how data is ingested, transformed and stored.
  • Support the migration of existing pipelines from legacy on-prem SQL Server infrastructure to BigQuery and Dataform.
  • Apply version control (Git) as standard practice — all code is reviewed, documented and maintained properly.

Domain Dataset Development:

  • Contribute to the build-out of your aligned domain dataset — helping to consolidate disparate data sources into a structured, reliable and well-documented data asset.
  • In the Customer domain: working towards the foundations of a unified customer dataset, bringing together data from multiple source systems into a consistent, queryable structure.
  • In Commercial: building and maintaining the datasets that power category, brand and trading analytics — ensuring consistency in how commercial data is structured and stored.
  • In Operations: developing the data pipelines and structures that support supply chain, logistics and fulfilment analytics.
  • Identify and flag data quality issues within your domain — working with the Data Governance Lead on standards and resolution.
  • Work closely with your Senior Data Engineer and the Engineering Lead — asking questions, learning fast and contributing to the team's technical decisions.
  • Engage with analytics and data science teams who consume your domain's data — understanding their requirements and ensuring what you build is useful.
  • Participate in code reviews — both having your work reviewed and, as you develop, reviewing others.
  • Use AI tools effectively to accelerate your development work — we expect AI-assisted coding and pipeline development to be part of how the team works.

What skills and experience do I need for this role?

  • Solid SQL skills — able to write intermediate to advanced queries and comfortable working with relational databases.
  • Python — working knowledge sufficient for data manipulation, scripting and pipeline development.
  • A genuine passion for data engineering — you find the challenge of getting data right genuinely interesting.
  • Attention to detail and a methodical approach — data engineering is unforgiving of sloppiness.
  • Eagerness to learn — this role will develop quickly and we want someone who grabs that opportunity.
  • Exposure to BigQuery, Dataform or equivalent cloud data tools.
  • Familiarity with version control (Git).
  • Experience with or understanding of data pipeline design patterns.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Any experience applying AI tools in a technical context.

What’s in it for me?

  • Access bespoke development programmes that have been designed and developed by our in-house L&D team.
  • Continued development through our upskilling programme that is delivered in partnership with an industry-leading training provider.
  • Enhanced Leave: 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays. Don’t want to work on your birthday? We don’t either! Enjoy your day off on us! Enhanced maternity and paternity pay, depending on length of service. Up to 10 days compassionate leave. Buy back up to 3 days each year.
  • Access face-to-face and virtual appointments with our in-house GP.
  • Access our 247 Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) which is provided by Bupa.
  • State-of-the-art on-site gym.
  • Access to our on-site physio.

Other Perks:

  • Save up to 12% on the cost of personal tech through our salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Subsidised bus pass from Manchester City Centre to our ICON office.
  • Up to 50% staff discount on THG brands.
  • On-site staff shop.
  • Know someone who would be perfect for THG? Refer them and get up to £1000 when they pass their probation.
  • Anniversary gifts when you hit 5 and 10 years of service.
