The Opportunity:
Our client is a premier specialist importer and packer and a leader in the fresh produce industry. Following the appointment of a new Managing Director and a fresh vision for the site, the business is entering a significant period of modernisation. Crucially, the business is investing heavily in its people. They have recently commissioned a brand-new, dedicated training facility on-site, featuring a mini production environment. This role isn’t just about maintaining the status quo; it’s about using these new resources to build a world-class L&D function from the ground up. Recognised as a multi-category finalist in recent industry awards for their innovation and culture, this is a business that truly views L&D as a strategic priority.
We are looking for a high-energy Learning & Development Manager to turn a vision for a world-class training function into a reality. This is a newly created role where you won’t just be delivering content; you will be the architect of the L&D strategy, building career pathways from the ground up and eventually growing your own team.
The Role:
This is an operational role designed for a "doer", someone who thrives in the buzz of a live production environment and enjoys seeing the immediate impact of their work on the shop floor. You will focus initially on fast-paced packhouse operations before expanding across the wider business.
Key Focus Areas:
- Conduct a full Training Needs Analysis and develop bespoke course content, including line leader and management pathways.
- Implement a 70/20/10 model, balancing self-guided e-learning via an LMS with classroom workshops and on-the-job coaching.
- Lead training in a brand-new, dedicated training room featuring a mini production environment to bring technical skills to life.
- Take ownership of a substantial apprenticeship levy pot, identifying where funding can support business priorities and managing external providers.
- Partner with leadership on group-level blueprints, including Women in Leadership and other cultural programmes.
- Maintain the training matrix and accurate records to ensure the site remains compliant and audit-ready.
Who You Are:
You are a facilitator who can "command the room," whether that room is a formal boardroom or a packhouse floor full of colleagues in high-vis and hairnets. You likely come from a Food, Manufacturing, or fast-paced environment and understand that L&D in this industry happens on the move. You are an engaging, energetic facilitator who can make even "dry" topics like Health & Safety feel lively and relevant. You are happy to "roll your sleeves up" to manage LMS administration and data while simultaneously designing high-level strategy. You have a confident communication style and the sensitivity to facilitate multilingual training programs with the support of on-site translators.
Why Join This Business?
Backed by a major wider Group, the company provides the career opportunities of a large firm with the "family feel" of a local site. Benefits include:
- 25 days holiday, pension scheme, and optional company share scheme.
- Medical expenses cash-back scheme, life assurance, and free on-site parking.
- This role is 100% on-site (Monday to Friday, 8am–5pm) because being there for face-to-face engagement is what makes L&D successful in this environment.
