The How2Hub

Help The How2Hub CIC keep a well-governed board so our founder can focus on direction. As our non-director Company Secretary you'll run meetings, minutes, statutory filings and CIC reporting. Some governance experience and a willingness to use AI to work efficiently welcome.

What difference will you make?

The How2Hub is at the stage where strong delivery needs to be matched by strong governance. A capable Company Secretary will make a real and lasting difference to how well we are run, and free our founder and directors to focus their energy where it counts most on strategy, partnerships and reaching more young people.

Most immediately, this role gives our board the structure and discipline to make good decisions and act on them. Well-planned meetings, clear agendas and accurate minutes mean that decisions are properly recorded, actions are followed through, and nothing important slips between meetings. That turns a busy founding board into an effective one.

The role also protects the organisation. By owning our statutory registers, records and filings with Companies House — including confirmation statements and the annual accounts and CIC report (form CIC34) — the Company Secretary keeps us compliant, on top of deadlines, and safe from the avoidable risks that can trip up a young organisation. Sound, well-documented governance is also exactly what funders, schools, universities and employer partners look for before they commit, so this role directly strengthens our credibility and our ability to attract support.

As we grow, the Company Secretary helps us scale sensibly. By embedding proportionate, practical governance and supporting the onboarding of new directors, the role ensures our structures keep pace with our ambitions without becoming a burden — and that good practice is built in from the ground up rather than retro‑fitted later.

Finally, the role helps us live our values. The How2Hub exists to connect young people with the real world of work, including the responsible use of technology. A Company Secretary who makes smart, efficient use of AI and other tools to keep us organised models exactly the kind of practical, responsible adoption we want to champion.

In short, this role lets the people leading The How2Hub focus on impact, confident that the organisation behind them is well-governed, compliant, credible and ready to grow.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for an experienced, dependable person who will bring order, confidence and good practice to how our board is run, and who is genuinely motivated by what The How2Hub is trying to achieve for young people.

The essential requirement is at least three years’ experience in governance. This might come from working as a company secretary or governance professional, as a clerk to a board or committee, or in a senior administrative role with direct responsibility for board administration, statutory records and compliance. This experience is essential because, as an early-stage CIC, we need someone who can establish sound governance routines from the outset and keep us compliant with Companies House and CIC reporting requirements without close supervision.

Alongside that governance experience, the qualities that matter most are

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to keep multiple deadlines and moving parts on track without being chased.
  • Confident, concise minute‑taking, and clear written and verbal communication — the ability to capture a discussion accurately and turn it into a record people can rely on.
  • Discretion and sound judgement when handling confidential and sensitive information, with the integrity the role requires.
  • A willingness to use AI and other technology to work efficiently, helping us demonstrate the kind of practical, responsible adoption that sits in line with our values.
  • A collaborative, supportive approach, comfortable working closely with our Chair, founder and directors, and a commitment to The How2Hub’s inclusive mission.

Familiarity with company‑law basics, statutory filings and Companies House and CIC reporting (such as the annual CIC34) would be a strong advantage. Experience in a small or growing organisation, where governance has to be proportionate and practical rather than bureaucratic, would also be valuable.

This role would suit someone who finds satisfaction in being the quiet engine behind a well‑run organisation — the person who makes sure meetings run smoothly, decisions are recorded, deadlines are met and nothing falls through the cracks — and who would value helping shape how a new organisation builds its governance from the ground up.

If that sounds like you, and you would like to use your governance expertise to help connect young people with real‑world opportunity, we would love to hear from you.

Hybrid

What will you be doing?

We are looking for a Company Secretary to take ownership of the smooth running and good governance of our board, freeing our founder and directors to focus on strategy, partnerships and delivery.

This is a non‑director role you would service and support the board rather than sit on it as a voting CIC director. It is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing order, clarity and confidence to how an organisation is run, and who wants to see their governance skills make a tangible difference to young people's opportunities. As an early‑stage organisation, some of the early work involves helping put simple, lasting routines in place; thereafter the role settles into a steady rhythm around our meeting cycle.

Day to day, you would

  • Plan the board’s meeting cycle, and work with the Chair and founder to prepare and circulate agendas and papers in good time.
  • Take clear, accurate minutes, and track decisions and actions through to completion so that nothing agreed is lost between meetings.
  • Maintain the company’s statutory registers and records, and keep our governance documentation organised, version‑controlled and easy to find.
  • Oversee statutory filings and deadlines with Companies House, including confirmation statements and the annual accounts and CIC report (form CIC34) that a community interest company must submit.
  • Keep the board informed of relevant governance, company‑law and regulatory changes, and act as a first point of contact for governance queries.
  • Support the onboarding of new directors, including induction materials and any necessary checks.
  • Help embed proportionate, practical governance that supports growth without over‑burdening a small organisation.

You would also help us work efficiently, making good use of AI and other technology to keep agendas, minutes, records and deadlines well organised, and modelling the practical, responsible adoption of technology that sits at the heart of what The How2Hub stands for.

Throughout, your focus would be on keeping our decision‑making clear, well‑recorded and compliant, so that the board can govern with confidence and the wider team can get on with delivering for the young people we exist to serve. You would work closely with the Chair and founder, and have a genuine say in shaping how a new organisation builds its governance from the ground up.
