We are looking for a new Band 5 Staff Nurse to join our Charity funded Inpatient Hospice. The Hospice consists of an 18 bedded inpatient unit, a Day Centre, and a community team maintaining high standards of palliative care within a multidisciplinary environment. Services are provided for people with cancer, HIV, and other life-threatening illnesses, as well as for their significant others. Patients are admitted to the Hospice Specialist Palliative Care In-Patient Unit for assessment, symptom control, terminal care, rehabilitation, respite care, and medical interventions from a wide catchment area of the following CCGs' primary care trusts of Westminster, Brent, Camden, and Islington.

This role would ideally suit an experienced Palliative Care Nurse from either a Hospice or Hospital background. You will have mentored staff and trained junior team members previously. Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our independent private Hospital has just been rated the number one in the country for care in the latest Bupa survey. Uniquely, all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.

Main responsibilities of the Hospice Staff Nurse role:

  • Maintain high standards of skilled nursing care and professional practice through evidence-based practice.
  • Promote continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice.
  • Act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
  • Supervise and teach trained staff, healthcare assistants, and student nurses.
  • Assist the Ward Manager in leadership and management of the inpatient unit.
  • Coordinate services provided by the inpatient unit and contribute to the day-to-day running of the service.
  • Assist in the provision of other hospice services as needed.

Ideal candidate for this Hospice Staff Nurse role:

  • Experience at Band 5 or above in specialist palliative care or oncology.
  • Practice that is evidence-based and up-to-date.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks within own practice.
  • Experience supporting junior or less experienced staff.
  • Assertive communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct audits objectively and efficiently.
