The Trainee Gardener is a fantastic opportunity for someone to gain a very high level of horticultural training, working for two years in a highly skilled small team, whilst studying to Level 3, receiving additional training, and being paid London Living Wage. The award-winning Garden has a focus on sustainable practices, biodiversity and experimentation, and includes mixed herbaceous borders, meadows, trees, lawns, pot displays, and courtyards.

The successful applicant will already be working towards a career in ornamental horticulture and will be dedicated to building their skills and knowledge. They will study off site towards RHS Level 3 whilst working hands on in the Garden; working as part of a small and dedicated team to deliver the highest horticultural standards. In addition to regular plant identification tests, keeping a garden diary and the opportunity for a week’s self-organised placement per year to work in another garden or travel to see plants in the wild as part of an organised tour. Previously this has included placements at Gravetye Manor, Beth Chattos and Sissinghurst.

This post would suit someone with roughly twelve months experience (which could be paid or voluntary), self-motivated and dedicated. They will have already completed a Level 2 horticultural qualification and importantly have the ability and desire to study for RHS Level 3.

The Inner Temple is an inclusive work environment and an equal opportunities employer who very much supports applications from those who have traditionally been excluded from horticulture.
