Weekend Retail Assistant

Role Overview

We\’re looking for a
reliable and enthusiastic Weekend Retail Assistant
to join
The Hockey Centre
team in Woking.

This is a
customer-facing role
, working primarily on
Sundays (and Saturdays when available)
to ensure the shop runs smoothly and every customer enjoys an excellent in-store experience.

No hockey background is required — just a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Full training is provided on products, systems, and processes.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Service & Sales

• Welcome and assist walk-in customers, creating a friendly and professional atmosphere.
• Provide advice on product selection, sizing, and suitability (training provided).
• Upsell complementary products such as shoes, grips, and accessories where relevant.
• Accurately process transactions using the POS system.

Retail Operations

• Keep the shop floor tidy, stocked, and visually appealing.
• Replenish stock from warehouse bins as needed.
• Assist with shop opening and closing routines, including cash handling.
• Maintain clean, professional displays and promotional areas.
• Support with stocktaking and general shop upkeep.

Team Support

• Work closely with the weekday retail team to ensure smooth handovers.
• Support events and try-on days where possible.

Minimum Standards & Probation

• Probation Period:
  1 month, followed by a rolling contract with a 2-week notice period.
• Probation Review Covers:
  Attendance, reliability, customer service, and ability to work independently.

Behavioural Standards

• Professional appearance, friendly and approachable.
• Punctual and reliable for all agreed shifts.
• Follows all store procedures (cash handling, stock, and till use).
• Takes initiative to maintain shop standards without being asked.

Skills & Attributes

• Confident, friendly, and professional with customers.
• Good communicator and team player.
• Basic numeracy for till work.
• Interest in sport or retail experience (desirable, not essential).
• Organised, reliable, and takes pride in presentation.
