We are recruiting for an experienced Sous Chef to join a professional catering operation in Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled chef with strong leadership abilities who is passionate about delivering exceptional food across a varied catering operation, including fine dining, conferences, formal events and student dining.
Working closely with the Head Chef, you will play a key role in the day-to-day management of the kitchen, ensuring consistently high standards of food quality, food safety and service while supporting the development of the kitchen team.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Head Chef with the day-to-day management of the kitchen, taking full responsibility in their absence.
- Lead, supervise and develop the kitchen team, delegating tasks, delivering training and supporting recruitment and performance management.
- Ensure high standards of food preparation, presentation, food safety and stock control across all catering operations.
- Assist with menu development, food ordering, cost control and maintaining accurate kitchen systems and documentation.
- Work closely with Front of House teams to ensure excellent communication and a seamless catering service.
The Ideal Candidate
- Has previous experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar senior kitchen position within a high-quality catering environment.
- Is confident working across all sections of the kitchen and has a genuine passion for producing exceptional food.
- Demonstrates strong leadership, organisational and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and develop others.
- Has good commercial awareness with experience of stock management, cost control and maintaining food safety standards.
- Is confident using computer-based systems and is flexible to work five days out of seven, including evenings and weekends as required.
In return, you will receive a salary of £41,630 per annum, 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, with additional time off provided during quieter periods to balance operational demands.
