An established UK manufacturing business is looking to appoint a commercially focused Sales Director to help shape the next phase of growth across multiple revenue streams. This is a strategic leadership role suited to somebody who understands how to drive profitable sales performance through people, market positioning and commercial direction rather than purely through personal sales activity. The business already has an established customer base, a loyal sales team and a strong reputation within its sector. The opportunity now is to identify new avenues for growth, strengthen commercial processes, improve margins and help modernise elements of the wider sales and marketing function.
The Role
You will lead an established sales function consisting of both internal and external sales personnel, helping to create a more commercially driven and strategically focused approach across the business. This position is less about hands-on selling and more about enabling performance, identifying opportunities and ensuring the business is maximising both revenue and margin opportunities within existing and emerging markets.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading, mentoring and developing the sales team
- Creating a stronger commercial culture focused on margin as well as turnover
- Identifying and developing new market opportunities
- Supporting key customer relationships and resolving commercial issues where required
- Working closely with customers, distributors and partner networks
- Assisting with quotations and commercial proposals
- Reviewing pricing strategies and commercial processes
- Driving greater structure and accountability within the sales function
- Taking ownership of marketing direction and business visibility
- Supporting growth initiatives within a secondary business unit
- Exploring opportunities to increase export business activity
- Working closely with senior leadership on wider business strategy
Candidate Requirements
An experienced commercial leader who can balance relationship management with strong commercial awareness. You are likely to come from a manufacturing, construction, industrial, engineering or agricultural-related background and will understand the challenges of selling through distribution networks and reseller channels. Experience within sectors supplying products into agricultural or industrial markets would be highly advantageous.
The successful candidate will ideally demonstrate:
- Previous experience within a senior sales leadership position
- A strategic and commercially analytical mindset
- Strong leadership and people management skills
- The ability to influence and improve team behaviours
- Confidence managing both internal and external sales functions
- Experience improving margins and commercial controls
- A proactive approach to business development and market growth
- Strong customer relationship management capability
- The ability to challenge constructively where required
- Comfortable operating within an SME manufacturing environment
This role would particularly suit somebody who enjoys building structure, improving performance and identifying untapped commercial opportunities within an already successful business.
