We are seeking an R&D Manager to join a global leadership team near Newcastle upon Tyne. This key role oversees the full stage-gate process for new products, from concept design to testing and launch, while providing technical support and driving innovation through cutting-edge materials and research. You will accelerate product development and help shape the future of the business by building and leading a robust research and development team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Closely manage the 5 Stage Gate process from preliminary design to sales release.
  • Drive R&D initiatives, both legacy and new innovation including materials and design-to-cost methodologies.
  • Manage product development, testing, and compliance (e.g. BS88, EN, IEC).
  • Oversee lab operations (ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation) and type testing.
  • Support with technical expertise and product launches.
  • Support the development and implementation of strategic product roadmaps and tactical technical plans.
  • Recruit, mentor and grow the product development team.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 3-5 years' experience in an R&D, product development or a similar technical role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in electrical, mechanical, or materials engineering.
  • Engineering qualification to degree level or above (or significant experience).
  • Experience with low and medium voltage components and working to IEC/BS standards.
  • Knowledge of compliance requirements (CE/UKCA) and running accredited test labs.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to travel in the UK and internationally.
