The Hillingdon Hospital wishes to appoint a registrar to work in the emergency general surgery, upper gastrointestinal surgery, and colorectal units in the department of general surgery. This is a great opportunity for a registrar wishing to improve their general surgery robotic and laparoscopic skillset. There is a large colorectal cancer unit mainly involving robotic cancer surgery as well as abdominal wall reconstruction. The candidate would be primarily based between colorectal robotic surgery and EGS work.

At present, this post does not have educational approval and is therefore a service post. This post is not recognised for training, and full registration with the GMC will be required to undertake this position. The position will require covering the GS Day/night on-call rota.

The Hillingdon Hospital, situated near Uxbridge in the south of the London Borough of Hillingdon, has over 600 beds. In the north sector, Mount Vernon Hospital is also managed by Hillingdon Trust. The hospital offers a wide range of specialties, treating 44,000 in-patients a year. It features a large A&E department with approximately 100,000 attendances annually, an Acute Cardiac Unit, and an Intensive Care Unit with an adjoining four-bedded High Dependency Unit.

The A&E department underwent a redevelopment five years ago, with facilities for assessment, treating, and discharging minor injuries. There is a five-bedded Observation ward, and a Medical and Surgical Assessment Unit on Fleming ward, which handles all emergency admissions, with existing consultant physician presence and responsibility for medical emergencies.

Hillingdon Hospital has seven operating theatres, including a dedicated Orthopaedic theatre. The hospital also has an excellent Day Care Unit with 23 beds. At Mount Vernon Hospital, there is a new treatment centre with modern Orthopaedic and General Surgical wards, theatres with laparoscopic facilities, and outpatient consulting rooms.
