An exciting opportunity to join our friendly, dynamic, and talented team for a year’s fixed term contract. We require an experienced nurse to join us in providing excellent leadership and developing the expertise of our dynamic workforce in the Paediatric Emergency Department. This rewarding and demanding post requires commitment and motivation to provide quality care for patients from a diverse urban population. The post holder will be working alongside the matron and senior sisters to ensure excellent clinical standards and care are maintained. The post holder will also assist in the development of individual staff through the appraisal process in alignment with the Trust’s core CARES values. A passion for emergency care nursing with proven communication skills, good time management skills, enthusiasm, and the ability to be flexible are the qualities that will enable you to fulfil this role. You will act as a role model for the nursing team in the department; additionally, you will be able to provide professional leadership, motivation, direction, and inspiration to all members of the multidisciplinary team. This role necessitates demonstrable post-registration experience in an Emergency Department setting at Band 6 or above, proven leadership and communication skills, and the ability to initiate and effect change for service improvement. Main duties of the job To provide clinical nursing and managerial expertise in all aspects of the paediatric emergency speciality, ensuring the highest possible standards of nursing care and use of technical support equipment, within the efficient utilisation of resources. Working independently with patients and relatives as a paediatric expert assessing, treating, and liaising with the medical teams regarding admission or discharge following their episode of unscheduled care. Provide teaching and educational support for nursing and medical colleagues in the practice of paediatric care within the emergency department. To be responsible for creating a dynamic environment which supports the continuing education of staff and students. The post holder will provide the link between clinical practice and higher education for student nurse placement. Promote clinical governance and risk management within the paediatric emergency department. In conjunction with the Matron for ED, have 24-hour continuing responsibility for the delivery of high-quality patient-centred care. To be responsible for the implementation and monitoring of government policies and targets associated with paediatric services, such as the four-hour wait and children’s NSF.
