Overview

The post-holder will play a key role in realising our ambition to continue to deliver a high-quality clinical service by bringing new skills to our Haematology department. It is a requirement that every doctor takes part in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of the revalidation cycle.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the Haematology on-call rota; provide emergency out-of-hours cover to Harefield Hospital and Hillingdon Hospital on a roughly 1:5 basis with prospective cover.
  • Run an in-patient and out-patient Haematology service within a team; provide an advisory service for colleagues and primary care via REGO Advice and Guidance.
  • Contribute to education, training and professional development of medical and other staff; participate in post-graduate and undergraduate teaching and General Practitioner education.
  • Provide evidence of SPA activities (clinical and educational supervision, teaching, audit, and personal CPD) and include CPD as part of annual appraisal and revalidation.
  • Work with colleagues to develop services to meet patient needs; participate in service planning and development with the Directorate; on-site base at Hillingdon Hospital with a service-level contract for out-of-hours cover at Harefield Hospital.

The department provides clinical and laboratory Haematology services between Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospital; current staffing includes 4 Consultants and Registrars; the successful appointee will be based at Hillingdon with rotation coverage as described.

Fit and requirements

  • Sub-specialist interest in Haemato-Oncology; track record of delivering high-quality clinical service, service improvement, teaching and training.
  • Commitment to on-call duties and flexible working; able to work full-time (or eligible for consideration if part-time with agreed job plan adjustments).
  • On-call commitment approximately 1 in 5, with prospective cover; on-call duties across The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Mount Vernon/ Royal Brompton and Harefield sites as applicable.
  • Participation in annual job planning and annual appraisal as part of revalidation.
