A vacancy for a Consultant in Frailty Assessment and Elderly Medicine at The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Frailty Assessment Unit – the only unit in North West London achieving all 5 NHS England Acute Frailty service recommendations.
  • Provide acute front‑door frailty care in an 8‑bedded assessment unit with direct pathways from community, LAS and ED.
  • Manage 15 inpatients on Hayes ward and support coverage on Hayes and a separate Elderly Medicine ward (Franklin ward).
  • Serve as part of a fixed‑term (1‑year) contract aimed at progression to specialist registration (CESR/Portfolio).
  • Report to the Director of Unplanned Care and participate in a 10 + 1 PA post – 9 direct clinical care (DCC) and 2 supporting professional activities (SPA) including service development, audit and CPD.
  • Collaborate with consultant colleagues and multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive care, support audit, clinical governance, and continuous service development.
  • Participate in the on‑call emergency medical rota (approximately 1:22). On weekdays, on‑call from home 19:00‑07:00 with onsite ward round 07:00‑09:00 the following morning. Weekend on‑call from 07:00‑19:00 onsite, then home until 07:00 next day.
  • Develop a specialty area of interest within Geriatric Medicine aligned with department needs.
  • Handle administrative duties related to patient care and clinical department operations.
