Health Safety Environment Officer Location: London Salary: up to £60,000 DOE Job Purpose: To ensure the business operates in compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental legislation, with a particular focus on the risks associated with structural steel fabrication, handling, and erection. The role involves promoting a positive safety culture, preventing accidents, ensuring legal compliance, and driving continual improvements in HSE performance. Key Responsibilities:Health & Safety Compliance Ensure compliance with UK Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, CDM Regulations 2015, and other applicable laws. Conduct regular site and workshop inspections to identify hazards and ensure safe working practices. Maintain and update risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and COSHH assessments. Support safe lifting operations in line with LOLER and PUWER regulations, particularly for cranes, hoists, and steel handling equipment.Incident & Accident Management Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions. Maintain HSE records and produce reports for management and regulatory authorities.Training & Awareness Deliver safety inductions and toolbox talks for fabrication and site teams. Coordinate training for working at height, confined spaces, manual handling, and hot works.Environmental Responsibilities Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental regulations, including waste management, recycling, and pollution control. Implement initiatives to reduce carbon footprint, energy use, and environmental impact.Documentation & Reporting Keep all HSE policies, procedures, and documentation up-to-date. Report on HSE performance, KPIs, and improvement plans to senior management.Skills & Experience Desired: NEBOSH National General Certificate (minimum) or equivalent. Experience in structural steelwork, fabrication, or construction industry. Working knowledge of UK HSE legislation, especially CDM 2015, LOLER, PUWER, and Work at Height Regulations. Strong communication and influencing skills. Competent in incident investigation and root cause analysis.Key Personal Attributes: Proactive and hands-on approach to safety.
