Overview
My client is a well-established main contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across the UK. Operating in sectors such as bridges, power generation, utilities, and gas networks, they provide end-to-end solutions on high-profile schemes nationwide. As part of their continued growth, they are expanding their in-house steel division, which plays a critical role in the design and delivery of bespoke steel structures for major infrastructure works. They are now looking to appoint an experienced Design Engineer to join their Steel Division.
This is a key technical role that will support the delivery of structural steelwork across a range of infrastructure projects, from bridge superstructures to power plant frameworks, pipe bridges, and substation support steel.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce and coordinate detailed steelwork designs from concept through to fabrication and installation.
- Design steel connections, lifting points, baseplates, and associated components.
- Work closely with the structural engineering team to ensure compliance with design codes and standards (Eurocodes, BS 5950, etc.).
- Generate and review detailed fabrication drawings using Tekla Structures or similar.
- Engage with project managers, site teams, and fabrication workshops to ensure designs are safe, buildable, and efficient.
- Provide technical support during procurement, manufacture, and construction stages.
- Contribute to value engineering and innovation across design processes.
- Assist with temporary works designs where necessary, in relation to steel erection.
