An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Commercial Manager to join an award-winning, market-leading structural steel specialist working on a diverse portfolio of complex construction projects. This role offers the chance to develop your commercial career within a high-performing project environment, supporting senior commercial and project teams while gaining exposure to large-scale steelwork packages.
The Role
- You will assist in the commercial management of individual contracts, helping to protect contractual entitlements and support the delivery of projects in line with commercial targets.
- Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting Project Managers and Commercial Managers with commercial and contractual matters
- Assisting with take-offs, material schedules, resource schedules, and cost value reconciliations
- Supporting the assessment and commercial impact of variations
- Assisting with contractual notices and correspondence
- Supporting monthly WIP, cost value analysis, and applications for payment
- Assisting with subcontractor procurement, payments, and final accounts
- Maintaining strong working relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams
- Attending site visits as required
- Supporting health, safety, and environmental standards across projects
About You
- You’ll be commercially minded, detail-focused, and keen to progress within the construction or structural steel sector.
- Essential:
- Experience within the construction industry (ideally structural steel or specialist subcontracting)
- Strong commercial awareness and willingness to learn contract administration
- Good IT skills (Excel, Word; Project desirable)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- A proactive, team-oriented approach
- Basic understanding of steel construction
- Exposure to NEC or other standard forms of contract
- Degree-qualified or working towards a relevant qualification
