We are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to lead the kitchen team within our welcoming care home. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in delivering nutritious, high-quality meals while creating a positive dining experience for residents. As Head Chef, you will oversee all aspects of the kitchen operation, including menu planning, food preparation, stock control, compliance, and staff management. You will play an important role in ensuring residents receive well-balanced meals tailored to their individual dietary needs and preferences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prepare nutritious, varied, and appetising menus for residents
  • Cater for specialist diets, allergies, cultural preferences, and nutritional requirements
  • Lead and supervise the kitchen team to maintain a smooth and efficient service
  • Ensure all meals are prepared and presented to a high standard
  • Manage food ordering, stock rotation, and kitchen budgets effectively
  • Minimise food waste while maintaining excellent portion control and resident satisfaction
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and kitchen safety
  • Ensure compliance with Food Safety, Health & Safety, and COSHH regulations
  • Train, support, and supervise kitchen staff, carrying out regular supervisions and performance reviews
  • Work closely with care staff and management teams to support residents’ dietary and nutritional needs
  • Organise and deliver special meals and themed events for celebrations and holidays
  • Respond positively to feedback from residents, families, and colleagues
  • Attend staff meetings and mandatory training sessions as required

About You

  • Experienced as a Head Chef, Executive Chef, or Senior Chef in a care home, healthcare, or similar environment
  • Passionate about producing high-quality, nutritious meals
  • Confident leading and motivating a kitchen team
  • Organised and able to manage time effectively in a busy environment
  • Knowledgeable in food safety, nutrition, and kitchen compliance standards
  • Friendly, approachable, and able to build positive relationships with residents and colleagues

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a professional kitchen
  • Strong understanding of food hygiene and health & safety regulations
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, including weekends and bank holidays where required

Desirable Qualifications

  • Culinary qualification or professional chef certification
  • NVQ Level 3 in Catering or equivalent
