Approximately 75% of the work will be across the North West, including Liverpool and surrounding areas, with occasional travel to sites outside the region.

The Role

You will be responsible for carrying out comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments on high-rise residential buildings, identifying fire safety risks and providing clear, practical and proportionate recommendations to building owners, property managers and other clients.

The assignments will involve assessing a range of occupied residential buildings, including complex and higher-risk properties.

You will need to demonstrate a thorough understanding of the fire safety challenges associated with high-rise residential buildings and be confident assessing both the physical fire precautions and wider fire safety management arrangements.

The role will involve a combination of site-based assessments and home-based report writing, with responsibility for managing your own workload and delivering assignments to agreed timescales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out comprehensive Fire Risk Assessments on high-rise residential buildings.
  • Assess complex residential properties, ideally including buildings of seven storeys or more.
  • Evaluate fire safety provisions, including means of escape, compartmentation, fire doors, fire detection and alarm systems and firefighting facilities.
  • Identify fire safety deficiencies, significant risks and areas requiring remedial action.
  • Assess the effectiveness of existing fire safety management arrangements.
  • Consider the specific risks associated with occupied high-rise residential buildings.
  • Prepare detailed, accurate and technically robust Fire Risk Assessment reports.
  • Provide clear, practical and proportionate recommendations to clients.
  • Liaise directly with building owners, managing agents, property managers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide technical fire safety advice and guidance where required.
  • Manage individual assignments independently, ensuring assessments and reports are completed within agreed timescales.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of fire safety legislation, guidance and industry best practice.

Experience

  • Significant experience undertaking Fire Risk Assessments within the built environment.
  • Proven experience assessing high-rise residential buildings.
  • A strong understanding of the fire safety challenges associated with complex and higher-risk residential properties.
  • Good knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and relevant residential fire safety legislation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Approved Document B.
  • Knowledge of relevant fire safety standards, including BS 9999 and BS 9997.
  • Experience assessing fire safety management arrangements in occupied residential buildings.
  • Excellent technical report-writing skills.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to deal directly with clients.
  • The ability to work autonomously and take responsibility for the quality of your assessments.

Qualifications

A recognised Level 4 fire safety qualification or equivalent is preferred, alongside professional membership of a recognised fire safety organisation such as the IFE or IFSM.

Registration with a recognised fire risk assessor scheme, such as IFSM, FRACS or IFE, would also be advantageous.
