A leading multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Engineer to join its growing Building Safety and Fire Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and client-focused professional to work on a range of residential, commercial, mixed-use and high-risk building projects across the UK. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering fire engineering solutions, supporting compliance with current Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act and providing specialist advice to clients, design teams and stakeholders. This is a hybrid working role. Ideally, candidates will live within commutable distance of Nottingham, where the head office is based; however, other locations will be considered, particularly London and County Durham.
The Role
As a Senior Fire Engineer, you will lead and support a wide range of fire safety and building safety projects, working closely with architects, developers, contractors, housing providers and regulatory bodies. You will be responsible for delivering technically robust fire engineering services, supporting junior team members and contributing to the continued growth of the consultancy’s fire and building safety offering.
Senior Fire Engineer Duties & Responsibilities include:
- Undertaking and reviewing Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEW) in line with PAS 9980 guidance.
- Carrying out and reviewing EWS1 assessments and associated reporting.
- Preparing fire strategy reports for new builds, refurbishments and change-of-use projects.
- Providing fire engineering advice in support of Building Regulations compliance and Gateway submissions.
- Supporting clients in meeting obligations under the Building Safety Act.
- Liaising with clients, contractors, design teams, building control bodies and fire authorities.
- Conducting site inspections and technical reviews of fire safety installations and systems.
- Reviewing architectural drawings and specifications to identify fire safety risks and compliance issues.
- Assisting with the development of evacuation strategies and compartmentation assessments.
- Mentoring and supporting graduate and junior fire engineers.
- Contributing to business development activities and client relationship management.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of fire safety legislation, standards and industry best practice.
Experience
- Proven experience delivering FRAEW assessments and/or EWS1 reviews.
- Strong understanding of Approved Document B, PAS 9980, Building Safety Act, Fire safety legislation and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience working within a consultancy environment.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and client relationships effectively.
Qualifications
- Degree qualified in Fire Engineering or a related discipline (BEng essential).
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as: Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), CABE, CIOB, or RICS.
