Purpose of Job: To underwrite and develop a profitable book of business, as well as developing and maintaining strong relationships, offering a quality service to all brokers and clients within The Hartford, Global Specialty International business.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Use authority granted in Underwriting Authority Statement to execute on business plan.
  • Provide assistance and technical underwriting support to the Underwriting teams.
  • Develop and research business opportunities both through London Market brokers and Hartford International Offices.
  • Develop and use technical expertise to enhance profitability of renewals and add profitable new opportunities to the book.
  • Keep abreast of development of claims within the book and liaise with the claims team as necessary to ensure appropriate settlement of these claims.
  • Ensure compliance with Hartford best practice and policies and Lloyd’s regulations at all times.
  • Act in the capacity of a PRA/FCA Approved Person with responsibility for controlled functions and comply at all times with the PRA/FCA Statements of Principle for Approved Persons.
  • Assist in further development of systems for the monitoring and reporting of aggregate exposures.
  • Help further develop and maintain technical pricing models.
  • Help report to management, on a monthly basis, developments in the London market towards business plan and budget.
  • Run and produce internal reports and figures.
  • Contribute, as required, to the quarterly and annual reporting of underwriting results.
  • Participate as required in various committees, including underwriting, delegated underwriting, operations and risk.

  • Reasonable standard of education.
  • Ability to develop and sustain relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to prioritise and organise workload.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Team player with ability to work on a stand-alone basis.
  • Flexible.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience of identifying and implementing better processes.
  • Demonstrable and relevant experience of Marine and Energy Liability Underwriting.
  • Current or recent role in London Market.

This role will be based in London, UK and you are required to have the necessary right to work details prior to application.
