We are seeking to recruit a Clinical Assessment Nurse to join our Clinical Services team in our Edgbaston clinic. The role will report into our Clinical Services Manager and the successful candidate must be a registered nurse with a current NMC registration.
Role Purpose
The Clinical Assessment Nurse is responsible for undertaking clinical assessments and reviews relating to VAT exemption eligibility across aesthetic and dermatology services delivered by sk:n. The role supports organisational compliance with HMRC guidance by reviewing clinical records, patient questionnaires, consultation documentation, and supporting evidence to determine whether treatment qualifies for VAT exemption on medical or psychological grounds. This is a non-patient-facing governance and assessment role focused on professional judgement, consistency, documentation quality, and regulatory compliance. The postholder will work closely with operational, finance, and clinical teams to ensure decisions are evidence-based, appropriately recorded, and aligned with company policy and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Assessment
- Conduct VAT exemption assessments for patients seeking aesthetic or dermatological treatment.
- Assess the clinical, functional, and psychological impact of the condition or concern presented by the patient.
- Determine whether treatment meets the criteria for VAT exemption in accordance with current HMRC guidance and organisational policy.
- Escalate complex, unclear, or high-risk cases to an appropriate senior clinician or medical practitioner.
- Ensure assessments are objective, evidence-based, and professionally defensible.
- Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and comprehensive clinical records within the electronic medical record system.
- Ensure all supporting evidence and rationale for VAT decisions are clearly documented.
- Support audit processes relating to VAT exemption assessments and clinical record quality.
- Identify and report concerns, inconsistencies, or potential misuse of VAT exemption processes.
- Maintain compliance with:
- NMC Code
- Data protection and confidentiality requirements
- Consent and documentation standards
- Internal clinical governance frameworks
- Work collaboratively with clinic teams, doctors, operational leaders, governance colleagues, and finance departments.
- Provide guidance to operational teams regarding documentation requirements and assessment processes.
- Support consistency of approach across all clinics and regions.
- Maintain active NMC registration and professional revalidation requirements.
- Work within professional scope of practice and competence at all times.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of:

Person Specification
- Essential
- Registered Nurse with active NMC registration.
- Previous experience in aesthetics, dermatology, cosmetic healthcare, or outpatient clinical assessment.
- Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage sensitive conversations professionally and empathetically.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and data protection requirements.
- High attention to detail and professional integrity.
- Competent using electronic clinical systems and Microsoft Office.
- Experience within aesthetic medicine or cosmetic surgery environments.

- Experience undertaking remote/video consultations.
