South Molton Community Primary School are seeking a committed and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our school team working with both groups and individuals across Key Stage 2. You will play a key role in supporting pupils' learning, wellbeing and development, helping to create a positive, inclusive and engaging school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting pupils' welfare and personal care, including those with SEND
  • Delivering pre-planned learning, care and support programmes
  • Implementing literacy and numeracy interventions
  • Assisting with planning cycles and preparing learning resources
  • Providing clerical and administrative support to teaching staff
  • Monitoring progress and giving feedback to teachers
  • Promoting positive behaviour and encouraging pupil independence
  • Supporting school policies for safeguarding, health & safety, confidentiality and equal opportunities
  • Assisting with supervision during break/lunchtimes and accompanying pupils on trips when required

Essential qualities

  • Experience working with or caring for children of a relevant age
  • Basic understanding of child development and learning
  • Knowledge of safeguarding practice and strategies to remove barriers to learning
  • Strong communication skills, including confidence and fluency in spoken English
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to relate well to both children and adults
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English & Maths or equivalent)
  • Confidence using ICT, including Microsoft Office programmes

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience supporting pupils with Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Knowledge of SEN practices and the national curriculum
  • Additional training in learning strategies such as literacy or numeracy
  • NVQ Level 2 for Teaching Assistants or equivalent

Salary & Working Pattern

Salary: NJC Grade C: £25,583 - £26,403 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: This is a fixed term position working 30 hours per week, 38 weeks per year until 31st August 2026 (Monday to Friday 8.45 -15.15)
