Salary: NJC Grade A2 £24,413 FTE (This will be paid pro-rata to reflect hours and weeks worked)

Working Pattern: This is a part time, permanent position working 7.5 hours per week, 38 weeks per year (Monday to Friday)

Sticklepath Community Primary Academy are looking for a reliable, enthusiastic and hardworking Kitchen Assistant to join our school catering team. This role is essential in supporting the smooth, efficient and high-quality delivery of our school meals service.

About the Role

As a Kitchen Assistant, you will help ensure that pupils receive healthy, nutritious and enjoyable meals each day. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation and service of food, contributing to a high-quality catering service
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the kitchen as part of a friendly, efficient team
  • Complying with Health & Safety, Food Safety and Hygiene Regulations
  • Producing healthy, balanced meals and promoting positive food choices
  • Maintaining excellent standards of hygiene and cleanliness across the kitchen and dining areas
  • Cleaning equipment, utensils, surfaces, floors and fixtures after service
  • Setting up and clearing the dining hall, including tables, chairs and cleaning duties
  • Recording food temperatures and reporting issues such as accidents, complaints or equipment faults
  • Providing excellent customer service to pupils, staff and visitors
  • Attending training and contributing to continuous improvement of the catering service

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking someone who:

  • Has strong practical skills suited to a busy, hands-on catering environment (whether gained at work or personally)
  • Can communicate professionally and courteously with staff, pupils and visitors
  • Works well as part of a team and brings a positive, “can-do” attitude
  • Has good interpersonal skills and a willingness to learn
  • Is able to follow procedures, maintain hygiene standards, and take responsibility for small tasks
  • Can identify minor issues and knows when to report larger concerns to management
  • Is physically able to carry out the duties of the role (reasonable adjustments considered)

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in catering or a similar role
  • Basic IT skills for simple administrative tasks
  • Relevant industry training or qualifications
