Join our award-winning community charity as a Youth Worker – Trainee Position. Do you want to make a real difference for children and young people in the heart of the communities to the West of Brighton and Hove? This is an exciting opportunity to join our award-winning Youth Team at the Hangleton and Knoll Project. We are recruiting a Youth Worker Trainee to train with us to undertake the Level 2 or 3 in Youth Work Principles and be part of developing our new Health and Wellbeing Hub.

This is a rare chance to gain a Youth Work Qualification and practical experience while working in an inclusive, creative, and collaborative service that puts young people at the very heart based at the new Weller Youth Centre in Hove. We have 1 Full time Training Post that is Fixed Term for 1 Year (37 hours per week, including study time). Salary is fixed at £27,269 per annum. You’ll also benefit from a 6% pension contribution (with a 3% employee contribution), 5 weeks of annual leave plus pro-rata bank holidays, and additional leave over Christmas.

Main Duties of the Job

You will be enrolled in the NOCN Level 2 or 3 Award in Youth Work Principles (National Open College Network, England). You will undertake this qualification whilst working in placement with the HKP Youth Team delivering our youth work programme. You will learn:

  • Theory of Youth Work
  • Safeguarding in a Youth Work Setting
  • Engaging and Communicating with Young People

You will work flexible hours as a trainee in our service, using your newly developed skills. You will work within the limits of your experience and competence for your stage of training. You will be delivering youth work in a range of community-based sessions and you will receive high-quality supervision and support throughout. The role will involve team working and opportunities for leadership development. The training and service experience will equip you with the necessary knowledge, attitude and capabilities to work as a youth worker professionally.
