About Us
The Hampshire Vet is a proudly independent small animal practice in Basingstoke, founded by Emily and Jamie in 2022. We are committed to delivering excellent medicine and a genuinely personalised service to our patients and clients, while fostering a happy, supportive, and collaborative environment for our team. We believe the key to achieving this is when our team enjoys their work, has the freedom to pursue their interests, and can develop their careers while maintaining a healthy work-life balance and making time for the things they love outside of work.
We opened our hospital-standard premises in August 2023, after starting as a mobile practice to build our client base. Since then, our team has grown from 3 to 38, including our dedicated night team, which provides 24/7 out-of-hours support. We have achieved RCVS Small Animal Practice accreditation and ISFM Gold status. We were also delighted to win the New Business of the Year Award at The Basingstoke Inspire Business Awards 2024 and to be shortlisted for a SPVS National Veterinary Start-Up Award! In 2025, we won the Wellbeing Champion Award at The Basingstoke Inspire Business Awards. These achievements are a testament to our dedicated team and the amazing clients who trust us with their pets.
We are now embarking on the next stage of our journey: working towards achieving RCVS Hospital status, and expanding our premises to include three operating theatres, a separate dental suite, an isolation unit, and a dedicated space for a future CT scanner. We’ve also invested in a full laparoscopic surgical suite, giving our team access to advanced tools to provide the best care.
About the Role
We are looking for an exceptional vet with a strong interest in either advanced imaging or internal medicine to join us. We’d love it if you bring a certificate or Advanced Practitioner status and are ready to hit the ground running and make a real impact in your chosen speciality.
Our Team
Our 14-vet team is highly experienced and supportive, with a broad range of clinical interests, including multiple certificate holders and advanced practitioners. Within the team, several vets hold or are working towards postgraduate certificates in small animal surgery, medicine, cardiology, ophthalmology, and emergency and critical care, while others bring extensive experience in general practice, dentistry, behavioural cases, inpatient care, and the management of complex medical and emergency patients. This collaborative approach allows us to provide continuity of care while drawing on individual expertise when needed.
Our fantastic nursing team of nine RVNs performs Schedule 3 procedures, leads surgical and inpatient care, and provides invaluable support across the practice. We also have three dedicated night RVNs, who enable us to maintain a high level of care that prioritises our patients' needs around the clock. Alongside them, our eleven-strong client care team ensure smooth day-to-day operations and an exceptional client experience.
We also benefit from strong peripatetic support, with visiting specialists in cardiology, orthopaedics, and ophthalmology, and we maintain close links with nearby referral centres for complex cases.
What Our Team Thinks About Us
"Having previously worked with Emily and Jamie, I joined The Hampshire Vet because I believed in their vision for the practice and their commitment to clinical excellence and client service. I moved from a practice where I felt undervalued, and my clinical progression was not supported. It has been refreshing to work in a practice with a great culture where vets are given clinical freedom and autonomy, individual strengths and interests are supported, and staff feel valued. They value job satisfaction and support clinical development while encouraging a healthy work-life balance." Lisa MRCVS
"Coming to work at The Hampshire Vet was like coming home. I've found not only a practice that supports and encourages the opinions and involvement of all staff but also wonderful colleagues who understand that everyone is an important part of making an independent practice work. All of us are different in our styles and approaches, but we're all working towards the same goal - that of excellent, reliable and personalised veterinary care. It's a privilege to be part of the THV family." Beki RVN
"The Hampshire Vet is a positive and supportive working environment. The management team genuinely cares about their staff and makes time to ensure everyone feels fulfilled in their role. Sharing ideas for improvement is actively encouraged. I always feel listened to, and I know my opinion is valued. After 31 years as an RVN, I have finally found my happy place!" Molly RVN
Our Culture
We believe in exceptional patient care, evidence-based medicine, and outstanding client communication. We value collaboration, encourage personal development, and actively invest in the best equipment to support our team. Our new laparoscopic suite and ongoing investment in imaging and surgical equipment demonstrate our commitment to clinical excellence and providing our team with the tools they need to thrive.
The rota
Our full-time vets work a 4-day week, with a set day off each week, and an early finish 4 out of 5 weeks. Operating and consulting duties are shared, giving you time to develop your skills across all areas of practice. We also include protected lunch breaks and set admin time each day so you can catch up on paperwork, make calls, and leave on time.
Weekends are currently on a 1:5 rota (Saturday and Sunday 8 am–7 pm) with time off in lieu, and the schedule is organised so you have two long weekends in each 5-week cycle. As our team grows, we plan to introduce shorter daytime shifts and schedule two vets to work each weekend.
Having our own on-site night team allows us to maintain a high level of care that prioritises patients' needs without requiring our day vets to work out of hours.
Outside of work
The Hampshire countryside offers endless opportunities for exploration, from the South Downs to the New Forest. We also enjoy team social events, from festive celebrations to casual meals and outdoor adventures. Excellent transport links make London and other major cities easily accessible.
We offer:
- A salary of £40,000 to £75,000, depending on experience
- 6.6 weeks holiday, including bank holidays
- CPD encouraged, with certificates supported and funded
- Private healthcare
- Professional membership fees paid for RCVS and VDS
