Key Internal Contacts/Relationships: The HQ Comms Team, UK Philanthropy Team, HQ Strategy Team, HALO USA and comms officers and staff on individual programmes who supply content to HQ.
Key External Contacts/Relationships: Freelance photographers and film-makers based in country programmes; external consultant graphic designer in UK.
Job Purpose: Oversee the generation of film, photography, written and graphic content for HALO communications. Liaison with programmes to support their generation of content.

About the role: Reporting to the Head of Programme Communications, you will play a central role in developing compelling content that brings HALO’s work to life for audiences around the world. You’ll work across digital platforms, news media, donor communications and global advocacy to produce engaging stories that connect people to our mission and demonstrate our impact. The role suits someone who combines excellent organisational skills with creativity, sound editorial judgement and a strong understanding of digital communications.
Responsibilities:
- Produce engaging written, visual and multimedia content for digital channels and printed materials.
- Identify and tell impactful stories from HALO programmes around the world.
- Support donor attraction and stewardship by producing compelling content to meet the needs of HALO’s philanthropy team.
- Help train programme teams in content collection and develop relationships with our teams on the ground so they feel confident coming to you with news, stories and ideas.
- As part of implementing the content strategy, work with colleagues in the digital and social media teams to evaluate content and draw on insights to shape future outputs.
- Support the roll-out and maintenance of our brand redesign.
- Potentially visit programmes to capture video and photography content.
- Keep up to date with news and current affairs, particularly in the programmes where we work in order to ensure topical content gathering and ideas.
- Manage a network of freelancers collecting content for HALO on programmes.
- Work with HALO’s Legal Counsel to maintain the legal aspects of our content collection.
- Manage and organise video and photo content libraries.
General:
- Uphold HALO’s core values and standards, promoting its ethos and mission statement.
- Ensure familiarity with and adherence to all HALO policies and procedures, especially the code of conduct and safeguarding.
Requirements
Essential Requirements:
- Experience in communications, journalism, marketing or a field related to our work.
- Strong writing, video editing and storytelling ability.
- Organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Proven ability to develop and implement successful content strategies that drive engagement.
- High degree of competence working with multimedia tools including Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Premiere Pro, Lightroom and InDesign.
- Demonstrable experience designing content for digital channels.
- Experience of planning and executing video shoots.
- Flexible team player.
Desirable Requirements:
- Proficiency in Adobe After Effects.
- Experience in the NGO, humanitarian, international development or non-profit sector.
- Photography and videography skills.
- Experience using Canva.
- Understanding of international affairs and conflict-related issues.
Travel Requirements:
Travel to one or more HALO programmes will be required during the contract period.
