Job Purpose
As the Philanthropy Engagement Manager, you will be a key member of the strategic philanthropy team, advancing HALO's income growth ambitions by strengthening and growing a robust pipeline of individual donors. The role focuses on cultivating meaningful relationships with mid- to high-level supporters, securing five- and six-figure gifts, and delivering exceptional stewardship that reflects the impact of HALO's mission. You will be responsible for delivering high-level, bespoke donor engagement events, creating impactful experiences that deepen donor relationships and support fundraising outcomes. Working closely with internal stakeholders and global programme teams, this role offers the chance for an ambitious individual to make a lasting impact and help transform the lives of people in some of the world's most conflict-affected communities.

HALO is a leading global NGO addressing the impact and drivers of conflict in 30 countries and territories, with over 8,000 staff. The organisation focuses on clearing landmines and the explosive remnants of war that threaten lives and livelihoods long after fighting has finished. HALO also assists those affected by active conflict and endemic violence, securing weapons and ammunition and working with state and community actors to reduce the prevalence of armed violence.
About the role
HALO’s philanthropy programme has seen significant growth in recent years. Over the past five years, global philanthropic income has risen from £4 million to £44 million in 2023/24, and UK-based philanthropic income from £3.6 million to £8.9 million. This growth has been driven by exceptional donor support for HALO’s work in Ukraine, especially from the United States. The role supports the development of six- and seven-figure partnerships with philanthropists, corporates and foundations, and is delivered by a committed global philanthropy team based primarily in the UK.
Responsibilities
- Support the growth of individual donor philanthropy by managing and growing a personal portfolio of mid-level prospects to secure five- and six-figure gifts.
- Provide support to the Strategic Philanthropy Leads, delivering exceptional stewardship for new and existing donors and a high-quality experience at every stage of the relationship.
- Devise and manage the delivery of bespoke events and donor engagement opportunities.
- Work closely with HALO's senior volunteers to identify and engage new prospective donors.
- Ensure accurate and timely management of donor records, communications and reporting through Salesforce.
- Develop effective internal relationships with global senior stakeholders and programme teams to enable the creation of high-quality, compelling proposals and timely impact reporting.

- Ensure familiarity with and adherence to all HALO policies and procedures, especially the code of conduct and safeguarding.
Requirements
- Extensive experience successfully managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals or equivalent philanthropic partnerships, with a personal track record of securing philanthropic gifts.
- Proven ability to identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts with strategic relationship management.
- Resilient and goal-orientated, with a track record of achieving ambitious targets in a similar role.
- Experience of organising and managing bespoke, high-level engagement events.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to demonstrate tact, diplomacy and gravitas when engaging with supporters, senior stakeholders, volunteers and advisors.
- Excellent understanding of donor networks and how to navigate them.
- Confident and compelling communicator able to inspire support across diverse cultural and professional contexts.
- Excellent written skills, with experience developing high-quality, donor-focused proposals and reports in collaboration with programmatic and finance colleagues.
- Experience using fundraising databases, e.g. Salesforce, to manage donor records and track engagement.
- Intellectual curiosity and a strong grasp of philanthropic trends, with the ability to understand and articulate HALO's mission and strategic priorities to a high-level audience.
- Collaborative team player who thrives in a global, fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment, with flexibility to work across time zones and geographies.
- A good sense of humour, an ability to self-reflect and a commitment to HALO's mission, values and ambition for global impact.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience of fundraising in the following areas is desirable: mine action, conflict resolution, environment and conservation, humanitarian aid.
Travel Requirements
- Flexible. Team members work from London offices at least weekly, with monthly team gatherings.
- Full-time role with a 40-hour working week; office closes at 3 pm Fridays.
