We’re looking for a Junior Data Operations Engineer to join our Data & Insight team. This is a hands-on role where you’ll help ensure the smooth and reliable operation of our data platforms, keeping the information flowing that drives our business decisions.

About the role...

You don’t need to be a data expert yet. We are looking for someone with a learning mindset who is ready to develop their skills in automation, optimisation, and data quality. You’ll get hands-on experience monitoring data flows, responding to inbound requests, supporting incident management, and helping improve how data moves around the organisation. Working alongside Data Engineers and Analysts, you’ll learn how our stack works, gain exposure to cloud platforms and automation tools, and develop the technical and operational skills needed to grow your career in data.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Keeping things running: Monitoring data pipelines and systems to catch failures early, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring everything stays reliable.
  • Focusing on quality: Running checks and validation processes to make sure our data is accurate, complete, and consistent.
  • Automating and improving: Using Python or other scripting languages to automate repetitive tasks and workflows to make our processes more efficient.
  • Supporting the business: Managing inbound queries, helping colleagues with data issues, and overseeing user access and permissions.
  • Documenting and sharing: Keeping our documentation up to date and helping create support guides, ensuring knowledge is shared across the team.

About you...

You’re curious, proactive, and ready to get stuck in. You don’t need to know everything on day one - what matters most is your enthusiasm and drive to learn.

Essential Skills and experience:

  • Curious & Driven: You have a genuine interest in data and technology, and you love figuring out how things work to make them better.
  • Proactive: You’re self-motivated, take ownership of your tasks, and ensure work moves forward without needing constant direction.
  • Great Communicator: You are confident chatting with colleagues at all levels, keeping them updated, and managing priorities.
  • Honest & Professional: You’re comfortable having honest conversations - even the tricky ones - and handling them with tact.
  • Collaborative: You’re approachable and bring a positive energy that helps create a friendly, connected team environment.
  • Detail Oriented: You take pride in accuracy, quality, and getting things right the first time.

Desirable skills/experience:

  • Some experience or self-taught skills in - or an understanding of - SQL, Python, or cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, or GCP.
  • An understanding of data quality, process automation, or incident management.
  • A basic awareness of data governance or security principles (like GDPR).
