This is a varied, hands-on IT Support Engineer role at one of the UK's largest gym operators - covering everything from service desk and device management to site technology support and continuous improvement work across our growing estate. You will join a technology team that genuinely values curiosity and initiative, with the scope to develop your skills beyond traditional support into endpoint engineering, operational technology, and project delivery.

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing and resolving service desk tickets across the full incident and service request lifecycle, providing first and second-line support to users across the business.
  • Supporting users on Windows, macOS, Microsoft 365, and mobile devices - troubleshooting hardware, software, connectivity, and account issues.
  • Administering endpoint management activities using tools including Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, and JAMF, and supporting joiner, mover, and leaver processes.
  • Maintaining accurate IT asset records and supporting device provisioning, deployment, and disposal.
  • Travelling to gym sites as needed to support technology installations, new gym openings, and on-site fixes.
  • Creating and maintaining support documentation and knowledge base articles to improve self-service and reduce repeat incidents.
  • Liaising with external vendors and suppliers to support issue resolution and day-to-day service delivery.
  • Contributing to service improvement initiatives, including opportunities for standardisation and automation.

What we're looking for:

  • Proven experience in an IT support or service desk role, with hands-on incident and service request management.
  • Experience supporting Windows and macOS devices in a professional environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 and basic networking concepts.
  • Experience with user account administration and endpoint support.
  • Strong communication skills and a customer-first approach to technical support.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise effectively, and work independently.

How to prepare for a job interview at The Gym Group

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
