An exciting opportunity has arisen for an individual with specialist Moving and Handling skills to join the Specialist Moving and Handling Team at West Northamptonshire Council. This community-based role involves working directly with people who have physical disabilities, supporting them to live safely and independently. You will visit clients in the community to assess their moving and handling needs and collaborate with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers, carers and service providers to achieve the best outcomes.
What you will be doing
You will play a key part in improving the quality, safety and sustainability of care across West Northamptonshire. Your core duties include:
- Completing specialist assessments for customers with physical disabilities, including those with complex needs
- Developing, implementing and reviewing safe, person‑centred moving and handling plans while managing your own caseload
- Working closely with Occupational Therapists, Reablement Support Workers and other professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Providing specialist advice on techniques, equipment and risk management to support independence and reduce care requirements where appropriate
- Training, guiding, coaching carers, providers and colleagues in safe moving and handling practices
- Monitoring practice, addressing poor practice and escalating safeguarding concerns where required
About You
A confident, approachable, people‑focused professional who enjoys working directly with individuals, carers and other professionals. You communicate clearly, build positive relationships easily, and are comfortable working with people who have physical disabilities and complex needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- ROSPA Level 3 Moving and Handling Train the Trainer qualification, or equivalent
- A Levels or equivalent qualification
- Experience in health and social care, including undertaking moving and handling assessments and developing safe plans
- Good understanding of safeguarding, relevant legislation and equal opportunities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with individuals, carers, providers and professionals
Key Requirements
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle with business‑use insurance are essential.
Working Conditions
Field‑based role, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and is therefore subject to an Enhanced DBS check. As it involves regulated activity, it will also be subject to Children’s and Adults’ Barred List checks.
