Finance Benefit and Debt Caseworker in Scunthorpe

The Growth Company (GC) Justice Services team has an exciting opportunity for a Finance, Benefits and Debt (FBD) Caseworker to play a vital role in helping people overcome financial challenges and move towards a more stable future. Working to agreed performance, quality and customer service standards, you will contribute to the successful delivery of the service while supporting the achievement of key operational objectives.

The role involves delivering one-to-one and group interventions for people in prison and on probation who are experiencing financial difficulties. You will work with individuals to build confidence in managing money, improve budgeting skills, address debt issues, establish realistic repayment plans, and access benefits and wider community support where needed.

In partnership with the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), we deliver the Finance, Benefits and Debt Service, providing practical guidance that helps remove financial barriers and creates the foundations for successful rehabilitation, independence and long-term stability.

Please note that this role requires regular travel between Grimsby and Scunthorpe. It is therefore essential that you hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own car.

Key Responsibilities:

• Managing participant caseloads and supporting individuals in both community and prison settings to access benefits and meet claim responsibilities.
• Resolving complex debt issues by identifying financial barriers, negotiating with creditors and agreeing sustainable repayment and rent arrears plans.
• Providing budgeting and financial guidance to build confidence in managing personal finances, spending habits and daily budgeting.
• Liaising with key stakeholders to maintain communication with landlords, utilities, banks, credit unions and other agencies.
• Building strong, motivational relationships that support informed decision making and tailored action planning based on individual needs and learning styles.
• Delivering flexible, multichannel support through face to face, digital, video and telephone interventions to maximise accessibility and engagement.
• Monitoring progress and ensuring follow through by tracking actions, responding to correspondence and maintaining accurate, compliant records.
• Collaborating with probation services and working closely with National Probation Service officers to contribute to targets and service improvements.

About You:

• Demonstrate experience supporting vulnerable or marginalised groups including ex offenders, people in custody or those facing multiple barriers.
• Communicate confidently and engage effectively with the ability to motivate, challenge and build trust across diverse backgrounds.
• Remain resilient and calm under pressure within fast paced, target driven environments with competing priorities.
• Show flexibility to travel, work across different settings and occasionally support outside standard hours.
• Manage workload independently while meeting KPIs and maintaining high service standards.

Skills Required:

• Demonstrate case management expertise gained within training, advice, guidance, counselling or similar environments.
• Evidence strong understanding of debt and benefits including causes of financial mismanagement and DWP or Jobcentre Plus requirements.
• Use IT systems confidently including MI systems, spreadsheets, digital tools, diaries and email to manage caseloads.
• Apply negotiation and problem solving skills to resolve issues, challenge appropriately and advocate for participants.
• Deliver presentations and build networks while promoting services to varied audiences.
• Understand local labour markets alongside training, education and employment pathways that support progression.
• Recognise welfare to work principles including customer needs, national standards and sector expectations.
• Work effectively with multiple stakeholders across probation, community partners and third sector organisations.
