Marketing Manchester has an exciting new opportunity for a Head of Business Tourism to lead the Manchester Convention Bureau team in promoting and securing business for Greater Manchester as the UK’s leading conference destination. Marketing Manchester promotes Greater Manchester nationally and internationally as a place to meet, visit, invest and study. Marketing Manchester is Greater Manchester’s destination marketing organisation and official Local Visitor Economy Partnership, incorporating the Manchester Convention Bureau and Sports Bidding Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Motivate and manage a team to achieve targets and support strategic objectives.
  • Oversee the promotion of Greater Manchester to the conference market.
  • Control the annual conference budget, ensuring income and expenditure targets are met.
  • Oversee the Venue Location and Accommodation Booking Services, exceeding delivery service expectations and meeting financial targets.
  • Collaborate on business development and marketing activities to meet KPIs and revenue targets.
  • Lead 'Team Manchester' and work with stakeholders to maximize conference sector opportunities.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with industry trade associations to enhance Manchester's profile.
  • Project manage special initiatives to support business events objectives.

About you

  • Passionate about business tourism with an energetic approach to securing new business for Greater Manchester.
  • Extensive experience in managing local or regional destinations, with a proven track record in team leadership, budget management, and successful tourism project delivery.
  • Experience in city destinations and business tourism is advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of national tourism issues and challenges, along with comprehensive knowledge of tourism structures, strategies, and policies.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability, and strong team collaboration skills.
