A leading renewable energy Independent Power Producer (IPP) is seeking an experienced Senior Grid Manager to play a pivotal role in the development and delivery of a growing portfolio of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects across the UK. Reporting into the Head of Development, you will lead all grid connection activities from origination through to energisation, managing relationships with NESO, DNOs, TOs, ICPs, and key external stakeholders. This is a strategic position offering the opportunity to shape and optimise a multi-GW pipeline of energy storage assets as the UK continues its transition towards a low-carbon energy system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead grid connection strategy across a large-scale BESS development portfolio.
  • Secure and manage grid connection offers for utility-scale battery storage projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with NESO, DNOs, Transmission Owners, and other network stakeholders.
  • Assess connection opportunities and identify optimal grid connection solutions.
  • Support land, planning, and development teams with grid-related technical assessments.
  • Manage grid application submissions, modifications, and connection agreements.
  • Monitor and navigate UK grid reforms and evolving connection processes.
  • Conduct grid capacity analysis and evaluate network constraints and reinforcement requirements.
  • Oversee external grid consultants and technical advisors.
  • Support project financing and investment processes through provision of grid-related due diligence.
  • Collaborate with engineering, commercial, and construction teams to ensure successful project delivery through energisation.
  • Provide strategic insight into connection queues, network trends, and emerging market opportunities.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Renewable Energy, or related discipline.
  • 7+ years' experience within grid connections, power systems, renewable energy, BESS, or utility infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of the UK transmission and distribution network.
  • Proven experience securing and managing grid connections for renewable energy or energy storage projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of UK grid connection processes and regulatory frameworks.
  • Experience engaging with NESO, National Grid, DNOs, and relevant stakeholders.
  • Excellent project management and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and ability to influence strategic decision-making.

Desirable

  • Experience within utility-scale BESS development.
  • Knowledge of power flow studies, connection design, and grid modelling.
  • Familiarity with UK Connections Reform and evolving grid regulation.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards).
  • Experience across both transmission and distribution connected projects.
