I’m working on an exciting opportunity for a hands‑on Lead Systems Engineer/Technical CTO to take ownership of a growing energy technology platform, with the opportunity to shape its technical direction and build out the engineering function as the business scales.
This is a great opportunity for someone who combines strong software engineering skills with a solid understanding of the UK energy retail market, someone who can own the architecture, write code, integrate complex systems and help build the technology behind a new approach to energy supply.
The Role
You’ll take ownership of the platform from day one, working closely with the founders and playing a key role in shaping the technical roadmap, product and future engineering team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the platform architecture, technical strategy and roadmap.
- Designing and building customer‑facing platforms and dashboards.
- Integrating billing, CRM, customer accounts, metering data and settlement systems.
- Establishing and managing the technical operations required to support an energy supplier.
- Contributing to product design and technical decision‑making.
- Building and leading the engineering function as the business grows.
What We’re Looking For
- A strong background in UK energy supply or energy retail, ideally within a startup or mid‑market supplier.
- Experience designing and integrating distributed systems across an energy supplier’s technology stack.
- Hands‑on experience with industry‑standard billing, CRM and customer platforms.
- A track record of building customer platforms and dashboards.
- Experience connecting billing systems, customer accounts and complex data flows.
- The ability to take ownership of architecture while remaining hands‑on with development.
Particularly Interesting
Experience with high‑frequency transaction ledgers, billing, payments or settlement platforms would be a real advantage, as would familiarity with half‑hourly settlement data, matched supply models or building a technical function from the ground up.
