Senior Portfolio Manager to drive the growth and optimisation of renewable energy and battery storage portfolios across Europe.
This role sits at the heart of commercial strategy, energy trading, and portfolio management, helping to deliver profitable long-term asset partnerships while supporting the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
About the Role
As a Senior Portfolio Manager, you will be responsible for managing and optimising a portfolio of renewable generation and battery storage assets across European power markets.
Working closely with Origination, Trading, Risk, and Operations teams, you will evaluate new opportunities, structure and price commercial agreements, manage portfolio risks, and maximise long-term value creation.

Key Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management & Commercial Optimisation
- Manage a portfolio of long-term trading agreements covering wind, solar, and battery storage assets.
- Assess and evaluate new PPAs, route-to-market agreements, and optimisation contracts to determine commercial attractiveness and profitability.
- Structure and price long-term offtake agreements for renewable and flexible assets.
- Develop robust valuation and pricing methodologies for renewable generation and battery storage assets.
- Partner closely with Origination teams to support commercial negotiations through data-driven pricing and portfolio analysis.
- Collaborate with Trading teams to develop effective hedging and optimisation strategies.
- Monitor and manage portfolio exposures, including market, volume, imbalance, and operational risks.
- Analyse power market fundamentals including forward power prices, capture prices, generation forecasts, balancing costs, and ancillary service revenues.
- Support the development of new product offerings, contract structures, and commercial solutions for renewable and flexible assets.
- Identify and assess opportunities in new European markets and contribute to market expansion strategies.
- Ensure seamless onboarding and integration of new asset agreements into trading systems, operational processes, and risk management frameworks.
- Provide commercial recommendations and portfolio insights to senior stakeholders.
- Battery Storage Optimisation
- Assess battery storage revenue opportunities across multiple market value streams.
- Evaluate trading strategies including energy arbitrage opportunities through buy-low/sell-high optimisation.
- Analyse day-ahead and intraday market opportunities to maximise battery revenues.
- Understand and optimise participation in balancing, flexibility, and ancillary service markets.
- Develop revenue forecasts and optimisation strategies for battery storage portfolios.
- Structure and price battery optimisation and offtake agreements.
- Monitor market developments, regulations, and emerging technologies impacting battery economics and optimisation strategies.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for a commercially minded energy professional with strong analytical capabilities and a deep understanding of European power markets, renewable energy assets, and battery storage optimisation.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 5 years' experience in power trading, portfolio management, asset optimisation, renewable energy markets, or a related commercial energy role.
- Strong understanding of European electricity markets and renewable energy dynamics.
- Demonstrated experience pricing renewable portfolios, PPAs, route-to-market agreements, or battery storage assets.
- Solid understanding of the end-to-end asset lifecycle, from origination and pricing through contracting, trading, risk management, and optimisation.
- Experience managing portfolio risk and optimising commercial performance.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills with the ability to work with complex datasets.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence both technical and commercial audiences.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, Energy Management, or a related discipline.
- Experience working with renewable energy assets, including wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems.
- Advanced analytical and modelling skills.
- Programming experience in Python, R, VBA, SQL, or similar tools.
- Knowledge of battery optimisation strategies, ancillary services, and flexibility markets.
