Our client is seeking a skilled and proactive Grid Engineer to support the Pre-Construction team, with a focus on overseeing all aspects of grid connection for EV infrastructure projects. This position plays a key role in managing the full connection journey, from initial application through to on-site delivery.

The Grid Engineer will be responsible for engaging with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), assessing connection options, and ensuring the successful integration of grid requirements into project design and construction. This role requires the ability to interpret technical proposals, challenge assumptions where necessary, and collaborate effectively with external stakeholders.

You will work closely with colleagues across Operations and gain exposure to various functions including Finance, Legal, and Property, contributing to project delivery at all stages. This is a full-time hybrid position (3 days in the office and 2 days flexible).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the submission and management of grid connection applications, ensuring timely communication of updates and connection options.
  • Identify optimal grid connection solutions for each project, balancing technical feasibility, cost, and capacity.
  • Liaise with DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs to build strong, productive working relationships.
  • Provide technical insights on network and substation layouts to inform site designs.
  • Conduct grid-related feasibility assessments and advise on grid strategy for potential new sites.
  • Undertake site visits for surveys, assessments, and construction support.
  • Assist construction teams during delivery to ensure all grid-related activities meet DNO specifications and project timelines.
  • Attend meetings with network operators and key stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot issues arising during design or delivery using strong technical problem-solving skills.
  • Stay informed on relevant DNO policies, regulatory changes, and industry standards.
Required Experience & Skills
  • Experience in EV infrastructure or renewable energy projects.
  • Proven background working with UK DNOs, IDNOs, and ICPs.
  • Strong understanding of the grid application process.
  • In-depth knowledge of DNO regulations, with the ability to interpret and challenge proposals.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder-management abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Relevant engineering or technical qualification.
  • Desire and ability to build positive working relationships with DNOs.
  • Competent IT skills, including experience with MS Teams.
  • Full UK driving licence.
