The Green Howards Trust is seeking a highly capable and forward-thinking individual to serve as Chief Executive Officer, guiding the future direction of both the Trust and the Green Howards Museum, one of the UK's most respected regimental museums. This role will shape strategy, drive fundraising and ensure the continued relevance and sustainability of the organisation.
Located in historic Richmond, North Yorkshire, the Green Howards Museum tells the powerful story of the soldiers who served for over 300 years in one of Britain’s most distinguished infantry regiments until amalgamation in 2006 into the Royal Yorkshire Regiment. Our mission is to preserve and promote this unique military heritage while ensuring the organisation's long-term sustainability and continued relevance to new generations. We are committed to delivering impact through education, community engagement and care of our nationally significant collection.

The Role
As Chief Executive Officer, you will be responsible for leading on the strategic direction of both the Green Howards Trust and Museum. Reporting to the Board of Trustees and the Museum Executive Committee, you will oversee all operational, financial, fundraising and strategic aspects of the organisation. You will manage a team comprising a Head of Collections, Commercial Manager, Marketing Manager, Researcher, Administrator and Front of House. This leadership role requires a clear focus on fundraising and income diversification, as well as the development of a robust strategy for the Museum’s future.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the implementation of the Trust’s strategic vision
- Deliver a forward-looking organisational strategy that ensures the Museum’s long term relevance and resilience
- Ensure effective governance and financial sustainability of the organisation
- Lead and manage a committed team of staff and volunteers
- Safeguard and promote the Trust’s unique collection and its historical importance
- Deliver a comprehensive fundraising and income generation strategy
- Drive innovation of income streams, outreach programmes, and audience development
- Develop a building maintenance plan for the Museum
- Act as an ambassador for the Museum, cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, funders, and partnerships

We are looking for a dynamic, forward-thinking leader with:
- A strong track record of strategic and operational leadership, preferably in a heritage, cultural or not-for-profit setting
- Experience of fundraising, income generation, financial management and HR
- Ability to develop and implement long-term strategic plans
- Outstanding written and verbal communication abilities
- A collaborative leadership style and the ability to inspire staff, volunteers, and the wider community
- An affinity with the Army and North Yorkshire
