We are looking for a proactive and driven Packhouse Team Leader to lead our production teams in delivering safe, efficient and high‑quality packing operations. Reporting to the Packhouse Manager, you will be responsible for leading a team of operatives to achieve daily production targets while maintaining the highest standards of quality, food safety and customer compliance. The primary focus of this role is to maximise labour efficiency through effective labour management on the packhouse floor, ensuring the right people are in the right place at the right time to deliver operational targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and motivate teams to achieve daily production plans and performance targets.
- Monitor labour utilisation and productivity from the packhouse floor, ensuring resources are deployed effectively.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives across the packhouse operation.
- Supervise the packhouse independently.
- Liaise with the commercial team about packing.
- Capture stock levels.
- Report on sell‑by dates.
- Manage costs wherever possible.
- Develop strong knowledge of machines to cover absence/emergency repairs of machines or elevate to an engineer.
- Ensure all products are packed to customer specifications and quality standards.
- Monitor product quality throughout the packing process and take immediate corrective action where required.
- Promote a culture of food safety, quality and attention to detail.
- Ensure all procedures, work instructions and quality standards are consistently followed.
- Provide clear direction, coaching and support to team members.
- Conduct daily team briefings and communicate operational priorities.
- Manage attendance, timekeeping and performance issues in line with company procedures.
- Foster a positive, engaged and accountable team culture.
- Ensure the packhouse operates in line with customer, food safety and legal requirements at all times.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and GMP across all production areas.
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure any actions are completed promptly.
- Drive a culture where audit readiness is maintained every day, not just during audit periods.
