About the Role

We are currently recruiting on behalf of a growing organisation for a proactive and highly organised

Finance Officer to join their finance team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional who enjoys working across all aspects of the finance function.

Reporting into the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the accounts department while supporting accurate financial reporting and maintaining robust financial controls.

The successful candidate will be hands‑on, detail‑oriented and comfortable managing a varied workload within a busy office environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the purchase ledger, processing high volumes of supplier invoices accurately and efficiently.
• Raise and process sales invoices, ensuring timely billing and income collection.
• Monitor customer accounts, chase outstanding payments and support effective credit control.
• Process supplier payment runs and maintain strong relationships with external suppliers.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards and key balance sheet accounts.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end procedures, preparing journals, accruals and prepayments where required.
• Support the preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports.
• Process employee expenses and ensure compliance with company policies.
• Assist with payroll administration, liaising with external payroll providers where appropriate.
• Maintain accurate financial records and ensure all transactions are recorded correctly.
• Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting.
• Produce ad hoc financial analysis and Excel reports for senior management.
• Assist with VAT returns and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with financial procedures, internal controls and company policies.
• Respond to finance‑related queries from colleagues, suppliers and customers.
• Provide general administrative support to the wider finance function as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who enjoys taking ownership of their workload and can confidently manage a broad range of finance responsibilities.

You will have

• Previous experience in a Finance Officer, Accounts Assistant, Assistant Accountant or similar finance role.
• Experience working across both purchase and sales ledger.
• Strong knowledge of bank reconciliations and month‑end processes.
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables and reporting.
• Experience using accounting software such as Xero, Sage, Quick Books or similar.
• Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
• Strong communication skills and a professional approach when dealing with internal and external stakeholders.
• A proactive attitude with a willingness to support across the wider finance function.

Desirable

• AAT qualified or studying towards AAT, ACCA or CIMA.
• Experience supporting payroll.
• Experience working within an SME or growing business.
