1:1 and small group intervention support within EYFS

The Role:

You will support children in Nursery and Reception through 1:1 and small group intervention sessions, designed to build early language, early literacy, early number, and learning behaviours. You will run short, structured sessions that repeat key skills with high frequency, then help children apply them back in provision. You will use clear modelling, simple instructions, and quick checks for understanding so you spot gaps early and adjust next steps fast.

In communication and language, you will build vocabulary, listening, attention, and speaking through games, story talk, and targeted questioning. In early phonics and literacy, you will support sound awareness, blending, segmenting, fine motor control, and early mark making. In early maths, you will reinforce counting, subitising, number recognition, and simple comparison using practical resources and talk.

EYFS learning focuses on seven areas, with a strong emphasis on communication, personal development, and physical development in the early stage, so your support will sit inside that wider framework. You will keep brief notes on engagement and progress, then share feedback with the class teacher so groups, targets, and resources stay aligned. You will also support learning in the classroom and provision, reinforcing routines, modelling language, and helping children regulate and transition smoothly.

The Candidate:

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Strong communication skills, confident supporting early language, early literacy, and early number
  • Comfortable delivering 1:1 and small group sessions with clear routines and simple outcomes
  • Experience with children through nurseries, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, camps, youth work, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:

You will join a central Telford primary school where EYFS routines and provision are planned carefully to build independence, language, and readiness for Key Stage 1. Staff work as a team to spot need early, run targeted support, and review progress so intervention time connects to what children do in class. You will get clear guidance on focus children, session priorities, and resources from the start, so you settle quickly and deliver consistent support across the year.

Apply Now:

Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm availability, experience with children, and confidence supporting EYFS interventions. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for a September 2026 start. Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
