The Grace Eyre Foundation is a charity based in Brighton & Hove and the wider Sussex community that has been working with people with a Learning Disability and autistic people since 1898. Our mission is to work towards being led by people with Learning Disabilities and autistic people to deliver high-quality housing, support and activities in their local communities. The people we support tell us that they want “good support from kind and friendly people” – so that is what we are looking for!
We are looking to recruit a flexible support worker to provide cover support for annual leave, sickness and training and to generally cover gaps in our services where we need to recruit to some of our already established support services in Worthing, Chichester, Bognor and the surrounding areas where you will be guaranteed working hours of up to 37.5 hours per week. We have weekday, weekend and evening/sleep in shifts available.
Responsibilities
- Support people with learning disabilities, autism and other complex needs with day-to-day tasks in either our supported living houses or out in the community supporting people to live independently in their own homes.
- Support all aspects of residents’ lives, such as daily living skills, medication, personal care and finances as well as accessing community activities.
- Demonstrate good communication skills and enjoy spending time with people.
- Be patient, compassionate, understanding and able to use your own initiative.
- Role may require driving and willingness to engage in activities such as visiting theme parks together with service users.
- Provide a rewarding and varied role that helps people live a fulfilled life and achieve their goals with support from caring staff.
Learning disability and/or caring experience in supporting people (professionally or personally) is preferred. Current valid driving license and access to a car would be advantageous due to the broad geographic area covered.
Qualifications and experience
- Experience or interest in social care and supporting people with learning disabilities and autistic spectrum conditions.
- Patience, fun, caring and understanding staff who listen and enjoy going out in the community.
- Full driving license and access to a car is advantageous.
- Applicants must be able to undertake DBS disclosure and provide proof of right to work in the UK.
