GORSE SCITT is seeking to recruit an inspirational, well-qualified, experienced, and passionate colleague to the position of Lead Mentor. This new role will further strengthen our Outstanding School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) provision.

The Lead Mentor will play a crucial role in supporting trainee teachers throughout their training year at GORSE SCITT and ensuring they are fully prepared to transition seamlessly into their first year of teaching. Providing exceptional support to our trainees in all aspects of the programme is paramount and will be central to this role. It is essential that the Lead Mentor can build and maintain strong relationships with both trainees and partner schools and communicate with clarity and precision.

Potential Applicants Should Have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status.
  • Experience in professional development, particularly in supporting trainee teachers.
  • Exemplary standards of integrity, behaviour, professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and to the welfare of children and young people.

What We Offer You:

  • Membership of a teacher or local government pension scheme (depending on the role).
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities throughout your career in the trust.
  • Access to a 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme offering confidential advice and support.
  • Discounts and offers at major high street and online retailers.
  • Participation in a £2,000 Cycle to Work scheme.

Over the past 12 years, GORSE SCITT has trained more than 2,000 trainee teachers across all subjects and in both primary and secondary phases. As one of the largest teacher training centres in the country, we were once again recognised by Ofsted as an Outstanding provider in 2023. Each year, we train around 150 teachers from EYFS to Post-16. Our programme ensures trainees are exceptionally well-prepared for impactful, successful careers in teaching, especially in communities where educational disadvantage is a significant barrier.

Due to our strong track record, the Department for Education invited us in 2018 to participate in an expansion pilot in areas of challenge. In addition to our partnerships across Leeds, we continue to offer placements in schools across the Yorkshire and Humber region—developing the teachers and leaders of tomorrow.
