Golborne Medical Centre is looking for a part-time Receptionist/Administrator to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will be enthusiastic and confident in dealing with members of the public in a calm and professional manner, whilst delivering excellent customer service. Shifts are flexible: Morning (8:00 am–1:00 pm) and Afternoon (1:00 pm–6:30 pm). This can be agreed.

Main duties of the job:

  • Welcoming all patients and visitors to the surgery
  • Dealing with enquiries from patients and external agencies in person and over the telephone
  • Processing prescription requests
  • Signposting patients to the correct service

Job responsibilities:

  • Making appointments
  • Prescription requests
  • Giving out results where appropriate
  • Ambulance transport bookings
  • Deal with home visit requests
  • Deal with general enquiries
  • Contacting other providers
  • Register new patients and temporary residents
  • Greet and direct patients and visitors
  • Book appointments
  • Hand out prescriptions
  • Ensure outstanding queries are explained and handed over to the next shift, as necessary
  • Respond to needs of our clinical team during surgery
  • Collect fees from patients for non‑NHS services
  • Deal with general enquiries and complaints
  • File medical notes
  • Deal with requests for repeat prescriptions
  • Raise prescriptions as per Practice protocols
  • Deal with queries relating to repeat prescriptions
  • Input and extract information from Practice computer system
  • Observe health and safety guidelines at all times
  • General housekeeping (e.g., keeping reception and waiting areas tidy)
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Participate and continue personal development
  • Observe equality & diversity guidelines at all times
  • Treat all patients, colleagues and visitors with dignity and respect at all times
  • Any other reasonable duties as necessary

Pre-Checks: Enhanced DBS is mandatory.

Experience:

  • Experience of working within an NHS reception/administration team
  • Experience of dealing with the general public (face to face and over the telephone)
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Confident with GP IT systems
  • Experience of working within NHS / GP surgery
  • Experience of working with clinical systems
  • Only those with NHS experience will be considered; other applications will not be acknowledged.

Location: Ideal applicant will be local and within 5 miles of this surgery. Basic IT skills. Flexible with working hours.

Working Hours: Must be able to work morning and/or afternoon shifts: Morning shifts 8:00 am–1:00 pm, Afternoon shifts 1:00 pm–6:30 pm. Some flexibility may be available within these hours. Flexibility to provide additional cover for staff sickness or annual leave when needed.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check: This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and requires a submission to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
