Location: London
Scope: Responsible for energy strategy and utilities procurement and operations for the Go-Ahead Group across an international portfolio (primarily UK, Ireland, Singapore). Portfolio includes electric bus depots, railway stations and operational sites, focusing on electricity, gas and water utilities, with a strategic emphasis on electricity due to large and growing demand from fleet electrification and EV charging infrastructure.
Core responsibilities:
- Ownership of the Group’s electricity procurement strategy, including portfolio optimisation, supplier strategy and market positioning.
- Development and management of the energy risk management and hedging framework for the electricity portfolio.
- Integration of flexibility market participation (e.g. demand-side response, aggregation, grid services) into the procurement and trading strategy to optimise EV charging demand.
- Assessment of strategic opportunities such as PPAs, private-wire arrangements, onsite generation and energy storage.
- Forecasting and modelling of electricity demand and energy costs, including EV charging profiles across the Group’s international operations.
- Operational oversight of gas and water utilities across the portfolio (primarily contract management and portfolio administration).
- Close management of the Group’s external utilities services partner, which supports the portfolio (electricity, water, gas) with market analysis, procurement execution, hedging implementation, metering management, bill validation and utilities administration.
- Directing and challenging this partner while progressively strengthening internal energy capability, ensuring the Group leads its energy strategy from an informed and commercially strong position.
