About the Role

Go-Ahead Group is seeking a Fleet Performance Manager to join our Engineering team at Friars Yard, London. This is a pivotal role responsible for ensuring that reliability-centred maintenance plans are optimised to deliver excellence in fleet performance across Go‑Ahead’s bus operation. You will take ownership of the technical maintenance plan and engineering work instructions, adopt a data‑led approach to drive performance and efficiency, and work collaboratively with Engineering Systems, Fleet Quality and operational teams to embed best‑in‑class maintenance practices across the fleet.

Responsibilities

  • Reliability‑Centred Maintenance: Establish and embed a reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM) approach across the fleet, taking full ownership of the technical maintenance plan and engineering work instructions. Collaborate with the Engineering Systems Manager and Fleet Quality Manager to implement maintenance plans and ensure compliance is maintained across all sites and vehicles. Adopt a data‑led approach to optimise maintenance schedules, promote fleet performance and drive operational efficiency. Monitor engineering performance KPIs and work with the GAG Engineering team to identify and deliver improvement opportunities.
  • Technical Standards & Compliance: Ensure maintenance practices remain compliant with current regulations and industry best practice; adapt proactively to changing regulatory requirements and emerging engineering standards; maintain the integrity and accuracy of engineering work instructions.
  • Training & Capability Development: Identify technical training needs across engineering teams and work with the training department to design and deliver effective programmes; measure training effectiveness and drive continuous improvement in technical capability.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Performance Culture: Influence and motivate indirect teams to achieve and sustain high quality standards; collaborate effectively with Engineering, Operations and Fleet Quality colleagues; act as a credible engineering lead, building trust and driving a performance‑focused culture across the workshop and wider fleet function.

Qualifications

Experience in bus operations and/or workshop environments, with a strong understanding of fleet maintenance processes and engineering practices.

Required Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a data‑led approach to identifying and resolving performance issues.
  • Knowledge of reliability‑centred maintenance (RCM) principles and their practical application in a fleet or transport environment.
  • Ability to influence and motivate indirect teams to achieve high quality standards; proactive in identifying and resolving potential issues before they impact performance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and adapt to changing regulations and industry practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Technically credible and data‑driven, with a genuine passion for fleet performance and engineering excellence.
  • Proactive and solutions‑focused — energised by identifying problems early and driving lasting improvements.
  • A collaborative team player who builds strong relationships across engineering, operations and training functions.
  • Adaptable and resilient, comfortable working in a fast‑paced operational environment where standards and regulations continue to evolve.

  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme for wellbeing, financial, and emotional support.
  • Flexible working to balance your needs (reduced hours applications will be considered, however 5 days in the office is a requirement).
  • 25 days holiday, pension, life Assurance travel pass, buy and sell holiday up to 5 days, Discount platform.
