We're delighted to announce that we are now looking for our next Trainee drivers to join our talent pool. The successful candidates will be amongst the first considered when our next opportunities arise! This is a fantastic chance to start an exciting and rewarding career on the railway with us. This is your journey towards becoming a Qualified Train Driver who will be responsible for driving our passengers across our route safely and efficiently.

We are looking for individuals that are able to:

  • Maintain high levels of concentration with excellent attention to detail
  • Follow rules, instructions and procedures
  • Easily accommodate shift work on a 24 hour a day, 7 days a week basis
  • Work independently for long periods of time while maintaining high levels of awareness

To join our driver team, there are a few things you'll need to consider:

  • You must have the right to live and work in the UK
  • You must be aged 18 years or over
  • You will need to pass a Train Driver Medical including a drugs and alcohol test.
  • All applicants must be able to travel to the selected depot within 60 minutes. (You will be asked to prove your current address)
  • Willing to undergo psychometric tests covering multiple competencies
  • Have not undertaken psychometric testing within the last 12 months
  • Be able to work a variety of shift patterns including evenings and weekends.

Selection Process: Following on from an application, providing you meet the requirements you will then be invited to complete a series of online assessments, interviews and in house assessments with The OPC who GTS work in partnership with for Trainee Driver Recruitment.

Medicals & References: All successful candidates will be required to undertake a train driver medical which includes a colour vision test and a drugs and alcohol test as well as undergoing reference checks and basic criminality checks.
